About NATAU

NATAU has 12 Permanent staff members. The Head Office is based in Windhoek and 5
regional offices Khomas, Karas, Erongo, Oshana, Kavango West.

The Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union(NATAU) was established in 1988 under the umbrella of the National Union of the Namibian Workers (NUNW). Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union is a registered trade Union organising workers in the Transport Sector (Rail, Road, Air, Water), Aviation, Logistics and Security Sector.

It remained one of the smaller unions for many years with a total membership of around 4000.The Union embarked on a range of Organisational changes focusing on promoting
gender equality and women empowerment, recruitment of youth into the union branch and national structures.

Specific Objectives

  • To organise and unite all workers employed in various job categories in the transport, security and allied industries.
  • To further group all members together according to the nature of work they are engaged in and to assist them to further the interest of unity by forming the union structures at workplaces.
  • To strive for the betterment of the economic and social welfare of all members and of all Namibian workers and for social and economic justice in general by regulating relations between members and their employers and promoting the interests of members in relation to their employers;
  • To encourage the settlement of disputes by conciliatory methods and through the applicable laws.
  • To secure decent work and good standards of living for members and improved social security.
  • To continuously improve conditions of employment;
  • To promote and develop the skills of all members through education and further promoting awareness of the need for safer working environments.
  • To resist and defend the union’s members and the general working class against unfair labour practices, including dismissal and all forms of inequalities.
  • To eradicate all forms of unfair discrimination in the workplace and in society that are based upon arbitrary grounds including, but not limited to race, gender, sex, ethnic or social background, colour, birth, social-economic status, age, disability, HIV status, religion, belief, political opinion, culture, language and marital status.
  • To co-operate with and assist other trade unions in the general interests of members of the working class movements in bringing about change in the socio – economic situation in Namibia, in particular supporting the struggle for members’ rights to have a living wage and a life free from poverty and exploitation.
  • To provide advice and obtain legal assistance for members and officials in matters affecting their employment.
  • To uphold and fight for the internationally accepted practice of an eight-hour working day and other internationally accepted labour standards.
  • To make representations to the State and Government on labour legislation, national common laws and other matters affecting workers in general.
  • To promote international friendship, co-operation and solidarity with other labour organisations around the globe that share the same aims and objectives.
  • To carry out such lawful activities as may appear to be in the interests of members in general and which are not inconsistent with the objectives or any other matters specifically provided for in this Constitution.
